Headquarters Museum

At the Headquarters Museum, you can explore the office where Marshal C G E Mannerheim worked during the Second World War and the operational division’s land forces office in its wartime form.

Education takes a back seat when war breaks out. Pupils at Mikkeli Folk School discovered this when their school was requisitioned to host the military Headquarters at the beginning of December 1939. The children were away until summer 1945, with a few brief interruptions.

The top brass from Headquarters were placed in the upper folk school, and the other divisions were dispersed around the town and countryside on public and private premises. The Headquarters Museum, which was opened in 1974, presents Marshal Mannerheim’s office, the activities of Headquarters, and the wartime way of life.
