Mikkeli Klubi

The Mikkeli Klubi is an English-style gentlemen’s club that was founded in 1898 and got itself noticed when Marshal Mannerheim and his entourage ate in the dining room and cafe during the Continuation War. The concept of the “Marshal’s court” took shape when Taru Stenvall, a waiter who had worked there, gave the name to her book of memoirs of the war years.

Marskin ryyppy – the Marshal’s schnapps, a flavoured drink served in a completely full glass – rose to fame. The serving style, in line with tradition passed down from the Russian imperial army, and the secret recipe have retained intrigue. The stories told about Mikkeli Klubi during the war range from serious working dinners dealing with defining moments in the nation’s history to festive meals planned in the minutest detail.

A catering service operates in the traditional hall at Mikkeli Klubi.
